Released in May 2008, Wii Fit has proven to be one of Nintendo's evergreen juggernauts. The third-best-selling non-PC game in the US in 2008 with 4.53 million units sold, Nintendo's fitness sim was the top seller during the first half of 2009, according to the NPD Group.
Mix-and-match routines are now a go. Today, Nintendo announced that an expanded edition of the game, Wii Fit Plus, will be available in North America on October 4. The publisher also confirmed that Wii Fit Plus will replace all current Wii Fit bundles, which include the Wii Balance Board accessory, and will retail for $99.99--$10 more than the previous package. Though rumors had indicated a $30 price tag, Nintendo also confirmed that a stand-alone Wii Fit Plus disc will sell for $19.99. Explaining the inflated price tag, Nintendo notes that Wii Fit Plus will include all of the original title's activities, as well as 15 new balance games and six additional strength-training exercises. Wii Fit Plus will also let players customize their workout routines, a feature that drew criticism due to its absence in the original.
